Cinta Cholesterol

7:23 PM @ 7:23 PM

We all know what cholesterols are - bad, evil, heart stopping funstuffs that are in the food that we eat.

Here's a little something - the driving theory of "evil cholesterol" is known as The Lipid Hypothesis of Atherogenesis. And along with that I present a little trivia for yon readers: hypothesis means a theory that is unproven and/or has not been validated. In other words, you need to take the hippopotamus out of the thesis to make it really convincing.

Okay that last line was random digression - but funny never the less (ha ha).

So how come it's all the rage in dietary talks and stuff? I call it "The power of intellectual democracy(tm)": Enough people believing in something makes it true.

Take this for example; half a century ago, coronary heart disease were very very rare in India. Later on, the British came in, deemed all that wonderful gee and other miscellaneous evil fatty stuff are unhealthy. The thoughtful Westerners then introduced the Prudent Diet (look it up yourself) to promote a healthier alternative and guess what happened?

Fifteen times the death rate from heart attacks happened! FIFTEEN! What the hell right?

My theory is that people started to believe that the food were bad for them! All that fidgeting about and stressing on the "bad" food they're eating puts a toll on the BP, you know.

Another example stems also from gee. Plagiarized from some site or other:

In a report by Marc S. Jacobsen in Lancet of September 19, 1987, ghee was found to contain about 12.3% of all sterols in the form of cholesterol oxides, primarily 7-hydroxycholesterol, 25-hydroxy cholesterol, 20-alpha-hydroxy cholesterol, 25-hydroxy cholesterol epoxide, and traces of cholestanetriol. Jacobsen attributed the high morbidity and mortality from coronary heart disease of Asian Indians in the London area to consumption of ghee containing these angiotoxic oxysterols.

In other words, Indians in the UK are more prone to believing that they lead an unhealthy life-style and this leads to their early demise.

You see? The more those around you believe in something, the more you yourself will be suckered into this believe. So the next time you want to stress out on that big ass burger you're eating - chill out and just take a big guilt free bite. Besides, if I am what I eat, this must mean I'm cheap, fast and easy ;)

Er... which I'm not.

10:06 PM @ 10:06 PM

Went and had a little chat with Professor Shukran today - everything looks good, and now I'm just waiting for the committee to approve my application. Oh that and if perhaps they'll let me in December intake instead of making me wait for April?

Yeah all in all I should get that "Doctor" in 8 years time (or so).

I can see it now, Dr Zikri Kader: Analyst/Therapist

Or a shorter form for it would be; anal-rapist.

Before You Ask...

12:10 PM @ 12:10 PM

If you read my previous post and am wondering "Why the...?"

From the copied and pasted below, I want to focus on the one I marked red. I've always liked helping (or attempts at helping) out friends that way (I do this a lot, apparently) but soon I'll actually be qualified to actually do this.

Recruitment and Selection.

They can develop effective advertising methods, and use psychological tests to provide evaluations of candidates. They will also monitor and validate selection procedures, and design short listing and assessment methods which can identify candidates with the potential required for particular jobs. We have particular skill in Psychometric test and assessment centre design.

Training.

They can identify training needs, and develop and evaluate training programmes (particularly in how to get the best out of ourselves and others).

Appraisal.

They can identify key aspects of effective job performance, develop systems of appraisal which are fair and helpful to both the employee and employer, and advise on how to implement them successfully.

Attitude surveys and experimental research.

They use specialist skills to design and analyse surveys or morale, attitudes and values, to provide sound information on which strategic decisions can be based.

Vocational guidance and counselling.

By skilled use of psychometric tests and interviewing, an occupational psychologist can provide a person with a deeper understanding of his or her strengths, weaknesses and special interests.

Psychology 101

10:06 AM @ 10:06 AM

So I've thought about it and I'm thinking I want to change the direction of my career path.

Human Science (Psychology).

Now I'm waiting for the head of the department of psychology over at UIA (or IIU for you non-Malaysian folks) to call me back to tell me which way I should be going. Yeah, right now he's trying to see if I can skip A-Levels (which I never took) and go straight for the courses.

Yay.

At least I won't stand out in the student's crowd since I look like I'm barely 19 huhahuhahuha.

*Update!

Professor Shukran has just informed me that I can skip A-Levels and go for the undergraduate program! I just need some testimonials from some people (ex-bosses, clients, etc) saying that I am capable of being a 30 year old undergraduate, and I will be interviewed by the board of admission.

Thanks, prof!

The next intake is in December, I have no idea if I can make it for then. But I'd like to. First things first would be to make sure my finances are in order.

A Boring Entry

11:14 AM @ 11:14 AM

Sometimes, when you see a picture in the blink of an eye, you might mistake a person for someone else. You might think that it's Mr B, whilst in fact, it is Mr A. This is especially true when both Mr A and Mr B shares certain features; both having white hairs, for example.
